5 Simple Strategies for a Successful Home
We all want to be successful in our homes, but sometimes it is hard to figure out what is missing or where to start. That’s
Get and stay organized
Lets face it, having a messy and chaotic home is not considered successful let alone desirable. But all to often we find ourselves in a home without system or order and it can be hard to change that. I have compiled a post on basic organizing skills (https://www.bethanysfamilysecrets.com/2019/02/19/basic-home-organization/) if you struggle to get started. Everyone runs their home differently and we all have different personalities and strengths, so, I have also listed a few other blog posts so you have a wider range to choose from. Hopefully something here will suit you personally and help you on your journey to a clean and organized home.

Have a schedule
Having a schedule has been a game changer for my family. You can check my post out here:https://www.bethanysfamilysecrets.com/2019/01/31/family-scheduling/ for a step by step on how to set up a schedule for your family.
Find something that refreshes you
This one is a little harder to do, especially as a mom. There isn’t a whole lot of time for “me time”. In fact, its hard enough to find time to use the washroom without someone clinging to my legs (you all know what I mean I am sure) However, it is important to find something that helps you keep up your pace. Something to refresh your spirit. For me, having a blog to write has defiantly forced me to take some time alone. Also, spending time in the morning with God really refreshes my spirits. To be honest, I don’t have very many hobbies and things I like to do on my own. I never really did as a child either, but even something simple like poking my head out the door and breathing in the fresh mountain air can do wonders to refresh me.
Learn to be cheerful
I’m not going to lie. This one is something I struggle with every day. There are so many things in life that are not happy or comfortable. I tend to focus on the negative instead of the positive, but this doesn’t create a successful home. It creates a depressing environment and ultimately a depressed you. So how can we learn to be cheerful? A big thing I have found is choosing to be thankful. It is hard to be moody when you are talking about or writing about blessings from your day. Some people find it helpful to keep a diary of things for which they are thankful. I always liked this idea, but I’m not good at keeping up with it. For me, I find it most helpful to ask the Lord to remind me to be thankful and then try and tell someone what I am grateful for. This helps it stick better in my mind. Singing is also a way I’ve learned to be cheerful. I love the song “Always Cheerful,” but I am sure there are songs that you know that put a smile on your face. If you don’t like to sing, listening to one of your favorites will also help lift your mood. Smile-smile as often as you can. Whether you have to tape happy faces up around the house or you set reminders on your phone, do what you’ve got to do to remember to smile. A simple lifting of the corners of your mouth will do a great deal of good for your attitude!
Take care of your health
If you feel awful and are low on energy, you are going to struggle to be successful at anything. It isn’t easy to take care of your health when there are so many other humans needing you to look after theirs, but don’t forget that they also depend on you to take care of yours. A few simple things can help your overall health. (Disclaimer: I am not a Doctor. These are only things that have helped me feel more healthy and energetic) Drink lots of water. This helps to improve my mood and keeps my body running smoothly. Get some exercise. To be honest, I do not enjoy most forms of exercise, but a brisk walk in the fresh air makes me feel so much better! It doesn’t have to be long, and you don’t need to run, but keep a spring in your step, and you will feel refreshed and invigorated. Eat clean. There is lots of advice out there when it comes to what you should and shouldn’t eat. I know it can all seem daunting. I am a vegetarian, don’t eat dairy or eggs, and also do not eat gluten. These health choices are not the right ones for everyone. I have only found over the years that this is how I feel best. I would say the number one thing though, is to eat as many fresh fruits and veggies as you can. This is where the life is in your food, and I don’t know about you, but I need lots of energy and life when it comes to being a successful mommy.
